Open chess tournament in Skjólbrekka Mývatnssveit 19-22 november 2026
Tournament description:
6 rounds Swiss system open international chess tournament, played over 4 days, and in one section. Pairings done by Swiss Manager. FIDE rules apply, but FIDE norms are not possible. Participant lists will be updated regularly on chess-results.com.
*If more than 64 players register to the tournament, the organizers will divide the tournament into two rating sections, 2000+ elo and -2000 elo. The rating will be based on the November 1, 2026 rating list. Title players with 1900-1999 elo can choose either category*.
Time control:
90 minutes for the whole game with 30 seconds increment for each move starting from the first move

Bye-rules.
Players are allowed to take 2 times half a point byes in rounds 1-5, provided they give adequate notice. Adequate notice is considered to be given before all games are completed in the round preceding the intended bye round.

The Skjólbrekka community center stands on the bank of Mývatn and is next to Sel-Hótel wich is located about 700 meters away. It is about a 60-minute drive from Akureyri Airport to Skjólbrekku. It’s 7 hours drive from Keflavik Airport to Skjólbrekka.

The organizers have negotiated with Sel Hotel and Skútustaðir Guesthouse for accommodation discounts. There are many other accommodation options in the vicinity of Skjólbrekka. You can view them at visitmyvatn.is

Travel info.
The airline Easy Jet flies every Tuesday and Saturday from Manchester and London to Akureyri Airport. The tournament organizers will pick up players at Akureyri Airport and drive them to the tournament venue and back after the tournament. Just inform the tournament organizers if you need Airport Pickup. Players can also fly to Keflavík Airport and travel from there to Mývatn. Please note that it is a 7 hour drive from Keflavík to Mývatn. The tournament organizers will provide a bus ride for players from BSI in Reykjavík in the morning of 19, November to Mývatn and back on Sunday 22. November.
