It´s easy to rent a car at keflavík airport and drive to Skjólbrekka/Sel Hótel and back. It is possible to fly from Reykjavík to Akureyri, and rent a car in Akureyri.
Easy Jet fly from Gatwick and Manchester to Akureyri 2 times per week for a low fare. It is possible to get a return ticket from Gatwick to Akureyri for less than 100 euros per person in November 2026. Easy Jet only flies on Tuesdays and Saturdays to Akureyri, so if you use this option you will need to use 3 days for something other than a chess tournament.
It would be a good option to arrive in Akureyri on Tuesday 17th November, rent a car and explore the north or find a cheap place to stay in for 2 nights, and then get a carride from the tournament venue on Sunday to Reykjavík/Keflavík and fly home from Keflavík.
